Green - Hardwood Flooring Report

The Greenest Choice

Did you know that compared to vinyl, linoleum, and carpet, that solid Hardwood Flooring is the best choice for our environment!

A recent comprehensive study by the University of Wisconsin and the National Wood Flooring Industry Research Foundation concluded with the following statement:

“The final report shows that wood flooring has the least

environmental impact of all other flooring options studied.”

Considering the total impact on the environment for each alternative, the study found the Hardwood Flooring was the best in every category:

  1. Air Emissions (Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrogen Oxides, others)
  2. Water Consumption
  3. Total Energy Consumption
  4. Product Life Expectancy

The complete life cycle analysis of each choice was thoroughly studied.   In the case of Hardwood Flooring every aspect from planting the seedlings in the forest, through harvesting and manufacturing was analyzed.

The report also concluded:

“Wood is the only flooring material that is totally sustainable & renewable,

making it the obvious choice for the ecologically aware consumer.”

Wood is totally carbon neutral; trees remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen in the process.
